Several groups of Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of completed sub-projects funded under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan: Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) in Central Visayas have showcased the spirit of Bayanihan as they participated during the recent national cleanup drive initiative of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The Kalinga at Inisyatiba para sa Malinis na Bayan Program, also known as Kalinisan Program, aims to raise awareness and encourage participation among the Filipino citizens in environmental responsibility through solid waste management and encourage local government units (LGUs) to invest in programs, projects and activities on solid waste management and ecological practices.
The O&M groups in the provinces of Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Cebu responded to the call of the KALAHI-CIDSS program by participating in the national cleanup drive in their respective barangays.
The KALAHI-CIDSS earlier encouraged the O&M groups to join and participate in the said activity as the program promotes the principles of participation among local communities and strengthens collective effort in protecting the environment as part of the sustainability mechanism employed in the Community-Driven Development (CDD) initiative of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The program also wants to continuously showcase the spirit of Bayanihan and participation among the members of the community towards social sustainability and development.
