A two-classroom building in Brgy. Tupas and a concrete barangay road project in Brgy. Can-omay were inaugurated on July 15, 2021 in Antequera, Bohol.

The DSWD-7 funded the sub-projects through the Kalahi-CIDSS Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KKB). The implementation was cost-shared by the grant allocated by the program worth Php 5,625,000.00 and combined Local Counterpart Contribution of Php 205,539.00 from the two barangays covering 394 households.

Officials of Antequera, Bohol and Brgy. Can-omay during the ribbon cutting of barangay road.

Antequera Municipal Mayor Lilioso M. Nunag and Vice-Mayor Jose Mario J. Pahang led the inauguration of both projects that will benefit the 4th class municipality in terms of development and increasing the demand for educational facilities.

Nunag said that the new school building would provide quality education and a conducive learning environment for Brgy. Tupas and neighboring barangays. “The unveiling of this one unit two-classroom high school building would not only benefit the children but the entire community as it provides families the hope for a better future,” he added.

The school building project started before the pandemic to respond to the needs of the students. Schools Division Superintendent Bianito Dagatan hopes this will encourage young students to dream big despite the new normal brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aside from the brand-new learning facility, a 0.340 km barangay road covering three Puroks was turned over to the Can-omay officials.

The program continues to lift families out of poverty through farm-to-market roads, which are beneficial to livelihood sustainability. The newly concreted road would help reduce the delivery problem of agricultural products.

Vice Mayor Pahang cited the importance of bridging the development gaps by ensuring that the marginalized sectors can avail of basic social services. He said this road project would help boost the town’s agricultural sector and improve the lives of the farmer-beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, community volunteers were awarded for their service in the realization of the projects. “Nabag-o ang akong panglantaw ug nakahibalo ko nga aduna pay daghang hagit sa kinabuhi nga posible nakong mabuntog pinaagi sa akong nakat-onan sa Kalahi (My perspective changed, and I realized that there are many life’s challenges that I could probably overcome with what I learned from Kalahi),” emotionally shared Ma. Juliet L. Coquilla of barangay Can-omay.

Mayor Nunag appreciated DSWD in his commitment message. “Antequera is blessed and privileged to have a partnership with DSWD-7 through Kalahi-CIDSS because its generosity has impacted the lives of our constituents and contributed to the development of our town,” he said.

Both local officials committed to safeguard and sustain the gains of the projects as it will provide opportunities not only for the present but for the generations to come.

To date, Kalahi-CIDSS completed a total of 65 sub-projects in the municipality of Antequera, Bohol, amounting to Php 38,395,747.00 distributed to 21 recipient barangays. ###
