The Regional Council for the Welfare of Children (RCWC) chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently held various tilts participated in by the children of different child development centers in the Central Visayas region to formally conclude the month-long celebration of the 2019 National Children’s Month (NCM).

This year is the 27th NCM celebration is also the 30th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Children (UNCRC) which is the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history with 196 countries or states parties that set out the rights that must be realized for every child.

The Singing, Draw and Tell, and Folk Dance Contests are the three categories included in the Regional Children’s Contest, which was graced by the different day care workers and children from 17 local government units (LGUs) in region 7.  ‘

In the singing category, Jaliyah Luz Rosal of Lapu-lapu City won the 1st place for belting out her rendition of the song “Paglaum”. Meneya Chatty Paragoso of Cebu City got the 2nd place while Jaden Shekinah Flores of Dumaguete City took home the 3rd place. All three contest categories are anchored on this year’s NCM theme “Karapatang Pambata: Patuloy na Pahalagahan at Gampanan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan.”

For the Draw and Tell Category, Francine Mae Cañete who represented Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental clinched the 1st Place with her meaningful drawing that carries a significant message on the importance of protecting children’s right by the family and the community. Rogen Pongase of San Fernando, Cebu and Precious Jade Jacaban of Cebu City placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

On the other hand, select children from a child development center of Talisay City, Cebu bagged the first place with their Miligoy de Cebu dance performance. They were followed by the 2nd place who are from the municipality of Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental with their Jota Quirino folk dance and Toledo City, Cebu as the 3rd place who did the Polka sa Plaza folk dance.

All the winners received trophies, plaques of recognition, cash prize, certificates, toys and goodies while the non-winners also received consolation prizes for their active participation in this annual culminating activity for the National Children’s Month celebration.

The 2019 Search for Exemplary Pantawid Children Regional Winner Jhon Rhod Amodia from Cordova, Cebu also inspired the participants of the activity by showcasing his talent through playing of musical keyboard. Jhon Rhod performed two songs during the program: A Million Dreams and 10 Thousand Reasons.

The community singing of the National Children’s Month (NCM) Song: Sigaw ng Kabataan led by the children of Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) and 2017 Halad sa Kabataan Winners in Talisay City, Cebu concluded the 2019 Regional Children’s Contest. ###
