The Department of Social Welfare and Development – Field Office VII (DSWD – FO VII) clarified that there was no truth to reports that family food packs bearing DSWD markings were distributed by Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama to El Nino-affected communities.

Per verification, Dr. Ester Concha, Cebu City Social Welfare Officer told DSWD – FO VII that the goods they distributed on May 3, 2016 HAVE NO DSWD markings because these came from the stockpile of the city and not from the DSWD. According to her, there were no politicians present during the distribution of said goods.

To date, DSWD – FO VII has received requests for relief assistance from El-Nino stricken local government units in Cebu Province namely, Dumanjug, Alcantara, Madridejos, San Remegio, Alcoy, Balamban, Alegria, Carcar City, and Cebu City.

DSWD – FO VII will release today some 17,442 family food packs for Cebu City. The food packs will be distributed by DSWD Pantawid Pamilya City Links in coordination with partner CSOs and the church tomorrow, May 6, 2016.
Likewise the towns of Bien Unido, Clarin, Carlos P. Garcia and Danao in Bohol Province have requested for relief augmentation. ###
