The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VII (DSWD-7) together with the members of the Regional Council on Disability Affairs, Local Government Units (LGUs) and Organization of Rehabilitative Advocates for Inclusion (ORAI) conducted several activities in celebration to the 39th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) week on July 16-23, 2017 which carries the theme “Katungod ug Pribilehiyo sa mga Maykakulian: Ipatuman ug Barugan”.

DSWD 7 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre delivers her inspirational message to the participants of Cebu City’s 10th PWD Job Fair. She underscores that persons with disability have feelings and aspirations and this job fair provides the opportunity to PWDs to have work and livelihood.

The activities included the Holy Mass, Parade from Pedro Calungsod Chapel to SM Seaside, carousel and train for kids with disability, DSWD 7 opening program, LGU Mandaue City opening activity, series of seminar on understanding sensory integration and progressive education book reading, art workshop, Santacruzan, cultural show, movie viewing and recognition of Philippine Accessibility Disability Services, Inc. (PADS) Adaptive Dragon Boat Racing Team for winning their first international race via the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival at the Victoria Harbour.

Regional Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre attended the opening program in Mandaue City and the 10th Job Fair for PWDs initiated by Cebu City.

In both occasions, Director Macapobre in her message, emphasized the insights and privileges of the PWDs. She said, PWDs have feelings and aspirations and that have to be treated with respect and dignity.

To culminate the week-long celebration on July 27, 2017, the DSWD 7 will hold an orientation that will tackle the topic on Understanding and Management of AD/HD and Autism, rights and benefits of PWD. There will also be a presentation of position paper from Talisay City’s Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO). ###

 

Some of the PWD trainees of DSWD 7’s Area Vocational and Rehabilitation Center (AVRC II) grab the job opportunities offered by 8 companies during the job fair initiated by the Cebu City’s Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP).
