Argao received two access roads from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VII through its poverty-alleviation program in an attempt to boost the tourism sector of the town.

Argao Local officials headed by Mayor Allan Sesaldo with Regional Director Geamala during the ribbon-cutting.

Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) saw the need to support the town’s development by means of access roads leading to local attractions in the area.

The municipality of Argao consists of 45 barangays and is known for its beach resorts, history-old churches, and museums, which reflect the rich history of the town.

However, the influx of tourists decreased due to the limited movement of people caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, KALAHI-CIDSS aligned its work with the local plans of Argao to help people bounce back from the effects of the pandemic.

On December 14, 2021, Argao local government received access roads for Barangays Catang and Bulasa with 0.275 KM road and 0.0930 KM road, respectively, as a result of the community-driven efforts of the people in three sitios – namely: Dalanawan, Mansalagon, and Tiposo.

Municipal Mayor Allan M. Sesaldo believes that empowerment and development will not happen without the cooperation of everyone. “Progress should be spearheaded by local officials and community members must be allowed to take part,” he said.

Being the local chief executive, he is hopeful that through these projects, people will start to come back and visit Argao, opening more opportunities while inviting tourist movement between neighboring towns and provinces.

Regional Director Rebecca P. Geamala of DSWD Field Office VII led the turnover ceremony of the sub-projects to the local officials. “It is really our pleasure to serve everyone with their need for development,” she said while applauding KALAHI field staff and local officials for proactively anticipating the need of the town post COVID.

Barangay officials vowed to maintain the project and maximize its potential so that more people are encouraged to join and take part in community building.

Dako akong kalipay nga gihatagan mi og ingon ani nga proyekto. Kini maghatag namo og kalamboan, dili lang sa amoang kaugalingon apil na usab ang among giserbisyohan nga katawhan (We are very happy to have been given this project. This will provide growth not only for ourselves but also for the people we serve),” said Bulasa Punong Barangay Francisco Hannibal C. Diez.

DSWD, through its community empowerment program, ensures that households will not only benefit from the sub-projects in terms of transport and ease of travel but will invite opportunities for more people. ###
