A total of six (6) community sub-projects worth Php 9.5 million were recently turned over to the Municipality of Ginatilan, Cebu, by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to address issues on health and sanitation in the area.
Through the Additional Financing of the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), the agency has delivered its commitment to provide support to poor municipalities affected by the pandemic while empowering communities to come out stronger in their fight against the virus.
Barangays Calambawan, Cagsing, Palanas, Poblacion, Looc, and San Roque were the recipients of communication devices, medical tools, equipment, isolation facility with amenities, and rehabilitation of water systems.
The local government of Ginatilan warmly received the program by fully supporting the implementation that started in November 2021 by giving their cash and in-kind contributions and constant monitoring of projects.
The program provided project funds and trained the community volunteers.
Area Coordinator Michael L. Alelen said, “Sub-projects were implemented smoothly and properly since some of our volunteers already had experience with the program’s previous implementation.”
The KALAHI-CIDSS Additional Financing implementation produced 334 volunteers with 126 women, and 10 of them now hold leadership posts while projects are now being used by the community.
Communities believe KALAHI-CIDSS has given them an opportunity to understand how government projects are done and allow people to participate in community development.
Ginatilan vows to support the program through continuous operations of these projects by allocating annual budgets and resolutions to support its sustainability. ###
