Fire-affected families in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City, and Barangay Cansojong, City of Talisay, received relief from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7 – Central Visayas throughout March 2024 following the incidents.

This assistance reached Php 12.4 million, consisting of food and non-food items and cash aid, through the Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) in collaboration with various government offices.

For Barangay Looc in Mandaue City, the Field Office has provided a total of Php 10.1 million worth of assistance, which includes the delivery of 1,356 family food packs and 470 sleeping kits in collaboration with Ako Bisaya Partylist, the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV), the Office of Senator Mark Villar, and a cash aid amounting to Php 8.7 million for all the affected families.

As the first responder, the local government of Mandaue City has provided Php 18.6 million worth of assistance to their affected constituents, such as meals, water, medical support, and others.

Based on DSWD 7’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring, Information, and Communications (DROMIC) Report No. 7, published on March 28, the fire incident on March 12 affected 515 families, or 1,677 individuals, with 13 and 357 totally and partially damaged houses, respectively.

Meanwhile, fire-affected families in Barangay Cansojong, City of Talisay, received Php 2.3 million of assistance consisting of 369 family food packs, 127 10L bottled waters, 127 family kits, and 129 sleeping kits, still in collaboration with Ako Bisaya Partylist and the Office of Senator Mark Villar.

The families also received cash assistance of Php 1.57 million through AICS and the office of Congressman Rhea Gullas.

Miraflor Cabañero, a barangay GAD specialist and one of the affected individuals, expressed her gratitude to DSWD Field Office 7 and to other public and private agencies who extended help and support to them.

“Sa tanan, dili lang sa amoa nga affected ko, kato pang mga previous incidents, satisfied jud ko. Wala koy bati maingon sa DSWD, natagad gyud dayon ang problema sa katawhan labi na karon nga usa ko ug akong pamilya nga apektado, makaingon jud ko nga dali jud ma-abot og motabang (Overall, including the past incidents I have responded to, I am satisfied with DSWD. I have nothing negative to say about DSWD. I can say that they have always immediately attended to the people’s concerns, especially now that my family is affected),” Miraflor said during Field Office 7’s distribution of food and non-food items in Barangay Cansojong on March 22.

She recalled that before the incident, as a barangay worker, she attended to a constituent who needed admission to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. She was on her way to their barangay from the hospital when she received a call that her home was affected.

She also said that their home was just two houses away from where the fire started.

DSWD 7’s DROMIC Report No. 4, published on March 23, recorded 129 affected families, or 550 individuals, with 125 and three (3) totally and partially damaged houses.

The fire incident happened on March 19, 2024.

LGU City of Talisay has provided Php 1.58 million worth of assistance to affected constituents, which includes meals, drinking water, and emergency shelter assistance. ###
