The Department of Social Welfare and Development is celebrating 72 years of public service. This year’s theme, “DSWD@72: Kaagapay sa Pagbangon, Katuwang sa Bawat Hamon,” recognized the department’s workforce as the main strength of the institution in providing sincere, prompt and compassionate service to the poor, vulnerable and the disadvantaged in society.

Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero and Assistant Regional Director for Administration Antonio R. Dolaota led the torch-lighting to officially start the Sports Festival.

As part of this celebration, Field Office 7 opened up the weeklong event through a DSWD Sportsfest.

The field Staff in the region were divided into five groups: Green Team is composed of the Office of the Regional Director (ORD), the Policy and Plans Division (PPD), and the Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD); the Blue Team is from the Protective Services Division (PSD) and Commission on Audit (COA); the Orange Team comprises the Administrative Division, General Administration and Support Services Division (GASSD), Human Resource Management and Development Division (HRMDD), Finance Management Division (FMD), and Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC); the Yellow Team is from Centers and Institutions; and the Red Team is from Promotive Division and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

These teams played against each other in a series of games and sports events.

Different games in Laro ng Lahi followed at once and this included marble shooting, rubber band shooting, rubber band dampa, card searching, Takyan Relay, Jackstone, pick-up sticks, and Jenga.

Cheerleaders enliven the Pop Jazz Dance contest as they show their all-out support for their teams. The following are the winners: Green Team, Champion; Orange Team, 1st; Red Team, 2nd; Blue Team, 3rd; Yellow Team, 4th.

For the Laro ng Lahi, the winners are the Orange Team, champion; the Yellow Team, 1st; the Green Team, 2nd; the Blue Team, 3rd; and the Red Team, 4th.

The sports events in which the teams participated included basketball, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis. There is also Mobile Legend.

RD Lucero highlighted the importance of this activity in building the values of sportsmanship and camaraderie that will help strengthen the bonds in region 7.

The culmination of the 72nd anniversary will be celebrated this Friday to recognize staff, partners, and stakeholders who made a contribution to the department through Program and Awards on Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) awards, Pagkilala sa Natatanging Kontribusyon (PaNata Ko), and other citation awards. ###
