To provide a venue where persons with disabilities (PWD) can discuss their present situation and at the same time address pressing issues, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VII will conduct a whole-day PWD Summit on March 9, 2017 (Thursday) at the Montebello Villa Hotel, Apas, Cebu City.

About 150 representatives coming from the PWD federations, provincial and local social welfare offices and PWD concerned groups from the provinces of Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor are expected to attend the said activity.

DSWD-7 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre said that the event aims to review the accomplishment of PWD Federations, better understand the salient features of national and local laws in line with the implementation of Accessibility Law and Barrier Free Tourism.

She added that there will be workshops for those with disabilities on psychological and behavioral, chronic illness, learning, mental, visual, orthopedic and communication.

The activity was also designed to strengthen coordination among federation, share best practices and come up with solutions and recommendations to address issues raised by the sector.

Meanwhile, among the topics that will be discussed include the 10 Point Agenda on PWD, updates during the National Summit, among others.

National Council on Disability Affairs Executive Director Carmen Reyes-Zubiaga is expected to grace the event along with DSWD officials. ###
