In adherence to its mandate of providing immediate relief to the disaster-affected population in the region, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7 delivered a total of Php 5,622,897.10 worth of food and non-food items (FNFIs) to families affected by the fire that raged over Sitio Sta. Maria, Barangay Pusok, in Lapu-Lapu City.

Among the goods delivered are 1,098 ten-liter bottles of water, 1,098 sleeping kits, and 2,196 malongs. Following the request of Congressman Sony Lagon and Senator Mark Villar, 4,622 Family Food Packs (FFPs) were also released in two (2) different activities.

Based on the DSWD-7’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) Report #6 on the Fire Incident published on December 17, the affected families reached 2,202, composed of 5,151 individuals. They are temporarily sheltered in two (2) established evacuation centers at Pusok Elementary School and Pusok Recreation Center in the same barangay.

As of writing, the Local Government Unit of Lapu-Lapu City, as the first responder to the incident, has already provided a total of Php 7.2 million worth of assistance to their constituents.

Camp Coordination and Camp Management

As the lead agency in the Camp Coordination and Camp Management and Internally Displaced Persons’ Protection sub-cluster of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-7, DSWD-7 Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero, together with Assistant Regional Director for Administration Tonyson Luther S. Lee and Disaster Response Management Division Lilibeth A. Cabiara, immediately went to the newly opened evacuation camps to check on their situation.

They met with Social Welfare Committee Chair Councilor Annabeth Cuizon, Lapu-Lapu City Social Welfare and Development Officer Junard Abalos, and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Nagel Bañacia and assured them that the field office would provide augmentation.

DSWD-7 immediately deployed its CCCM and IDP Protection trained staff, and LGU Lapu-Lapu sent its 15 City Action Team staff to assist LGU counterparts in the monitoring and operations of the evacuation center and of the evacuees’ situation, the provision of technical assistance, and reporting data to the Field Office for consolidation.

On December 15, Assistant Regional Director for Operations Juanito C. Cantero, along with Disaster Core Group Specialist and CCCM and IDP Protection Expert Grace I. Yana, visited the evacuation camps and presented her findings to CSWDO Abalos.

The resolution of the findings has helped the IDPs and the LGU have a better temporary living situation and camp operation, respectively.

DSWD Field Office 7 is still in close coordination with the LGU Lapu-Lapu City and assured them that the agency has prepared to deliver more augmentation support to the affected families upon assessment and request. ###
