The Department of Social Welfare and Development Region VII through the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) kicked-off the month-long celebration together with staff in different divisions at the Convocation Area in its Field Office in Carreta, Cebu City on July 4.

With the theme “New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama–samang Gawan ng Solusyon,” the celebration highlights the importance of nutrition in recovery and creates discussions that promote nutrition for all people.

DSWD SFP Focal Person Ma. Romilene Padilla cited that people used to have different patterns or methods of eating, then changed because of the pandemic when food deliveries became more rampant.

Padilla said that this nutrition awareness aimed to try to change or shift the previous ways of food availability to the new normal of food availability.

“Let us try our best that in this celebration, we are going to change not only our food habits in terms of nutrition but also our overall well-being,” she said.

OIC-Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero gave a message to the staff of the department on the importance of having good nutrition to counter stress from work and having good health and well-being as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

“If we want to enjoy life, this is the moment that we start taking care of ourselves. And it goes well with our mental health. It is also very important that we invest in our health,” said Lucero.

DSWD-7 prepared a series of activities in the month of July that raise awareness about good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle for the new normal.

Wellness talks, wellness market, nail care and massage, diet counseling, yoga and meditation classes for beginners, Healthy Baon Challenge, # MoveItMondays, and the Search for Mr. and Ms. Nutrition Ambassadors are among their activities. ###
