The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7 implementers of Project LAWA at BINHI went around the Province of Negros Oriental on April 11–12, 2024, to meet with provincial and local technical working groups.

DSWD 7 Project LAWA at BINHI implementors met with the Negros Oriental Provincial Technical Working Group on April 11, 2024, at the Capitol to discuss support and preparations for the implementation in the local government units.

The group discussed preparations for the upcoming implementation of Project LAWA at BINHI in select local government units in the province.

Part of the agenda is the breakdown of sessions or topics for the three-day capability-building stage of the implementation and the project’s logistical and administrative requirements.

For the entire province of Negros Oriental, DSWD has allotted a total of Php 23.8 million to 2,549 partner beneficiaries who will be working on the construction or rehabilitation of small farm reservoirs, building communal gardens, and planting farm crops, vegetables, and fruit-bearing trees in their communities.

Project Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished, or LAWA at BINHI, is under the Risk Resiliency Program of the Department and seeks to develop sustainable solutions and implement interventions that will alleviate the challenges faced by the communities during periods of severe drought conditions, leading to water scarcity.

The participating LGUs were those tagged as heavily affected by the El Niño phenomenon identified by Pagasa’s Climate Outlook and with a high number of poor families, based on Listahanan 3 data.

The important provincial and local personnel part of the technical working group are representatives of the social welfare and development office, disaster risk reduction and management office, agriculture office, budget office, and planning office. ###
