The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7 in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Cebu City held an orientation workshop for 376 Risk Resiliency Program beneficiaries (RRP) on August 24-25, 2023.

Engr. Aguinaldo S. Jimenez, PDO IV and Risk Resiliency Program Focal Person, orients 376 potential beneficiaries about the program’s features, functionalities, and conditionalities.

These beneficiaries will work on the “Gubat sa Baha: Limpyo ug Bantay sa Sapa” project wherein they are expected to clean and restore the rivers: Guadalupe, Kinalumsan, Mahiga, Butuanon, Lahug, and Estero de Parian.

They will work together to improve the situation of the rivers through dredgings, clean-ups, and setting of various mitigation measures for a maximum of ten (10) days wherein they will be compensated 100% of the regional daily work wage of PHP 435.00.

Prior to this, DSWD Field Office 7 and LGU Cebu City had already implemented the same project for Tagunol Creek and Bulacao River, with 128 RRP graduated beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries are identified as poor by Listahanan and/or verified by LGU Cebu City’s Department of Social Welfare and Services, residing near the river, and are vulnerable to disasters/calamities.

RRP is a convergence program that will operationalize the Climate Change Adaptation, Mitigation, and Disaster Risk Reduction (CCAM-DRR) Cabinet Cluster to enable climate and disaster-resilient communities. It has two modalities, namely, cash-for-work and cash-for-training, both of which aim to strengthen the adaptive capacities of poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged families and communities to socio-environmental risk. This means providing them either a temporary income opportunity in exchange for community work or building their capacities for disaster mitigation and management through livelihood opportunities and skills training.

It aims to provide additional income support to economically poor and climate/disaster-vulnerable families and communities, build or rehabilitate public or community natural assets, and strengthen partnerships with LGUs.  ###
