The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VII, through the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II, actively took part in the 45th National Disability Prevention Rehabilitation Week, centered around the theme “Persons with Disabilities Accountability and Rights towards a Sustainable Future where No One is Left Behind.”

In the spirit of unity and strength, PWD trainees of AVRC II celebrate diversity and inclusion as they come together for the 45th Prevention Rehabilitation Week.

The event commenced with a vibrant motorcade, joined by numerous organizations such as Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), DSWS of the Cebu City Government, Cebu City Barangays PWD’s Association, Autism Society, Mandaue City Blind Association, Mandaue City Central School (SPED), 1st High School for the Hearing Impaired, Philippine Accessible Disability Services (PADs), Cebu United PWD Driver Association, Mandaue City Government, Juanito I. King Foundation, Inc., A2D Project Research, Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), Department of Health (DOH), Land Transportation Office (LTO), Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), and the Regional Alternative Child Care Office (RACCO). 

The week-long activity kicked off with a motorcade parade from Plaza Independencia going to the AVRC II in Labangon, Cebu City and followed with a holy mass. 

DSWD-7 Assistant Regional Director for Operations Juanito C. Cantero delivered a warm welcome address and led the recitation of the PWD’s pledge, while Mr. Graeme Ferdinand D. Armecin, AVRC II’s Training Center Superintendent II, provided an informative orientation on PWD laws.

In the afternoon, participants engaged in exciting competitions, including sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball matches, in which the Philippine Accessible Disability Services (PADS) and the participants from Mandaue City showcased their athletic skills.

Participants also displayed their talents during the PWD Got Talent, with Hearts and Hands Massage Services Inc., whose members are previous trainees of AVRC, sponsoring the prizes for the winners. A lively dance contest ensued between AVRC II and SPED Schools Cebu City Division, with AVRC II emerging as the victorious team.

Moreover, AVRC II staff generously sponsored a “tartanilla” free ride, allowing attendees to experience the traditional horse-drawn carriage ride.

The event came to a close with closing remarks delivered by Ms. Florita Q. Dabon, the Senior Manpower Development Officer III. ###
