The Body Mass Index Assessment (BMI) and Nutrition Counseling spearheaded by the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD- 7) Social Welfare Employees Credit Cooperative were successfully held recently at the DSWD office.

About 35 DSWD staff had their free blood pressure monitoring, BMI assessment, and glucose and cholesterol testing.  They also had free nutrition counseling. The DSWD Field Office 7 is one of the pilot agencies for the BMI Assessment and Nutrition Counseling in region 7.

In her message, Assistant Regional Director for Administration Herminia Cabahug expressed gratitude to the organizers for choosing DSWD–7 as pilot agency and connected the activity to the employees’ wellness program of the agency.

“We always look into the wellness of clients, however, there is also a need to look into the health of the employees,” said ARDA Cabahug.

Cabahug added that the assessment and nutrition counseling is only the beginning and that the office will conduct support activities for the health and wellness of DSWD workers.

Dr. Parolita Mission, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, National Nutrition Council 7; representatives of the Department of Agriculture, Cebu Provincial Health Office, Nutrition Center of the Philippines, Philippine Association of Nutrition, Philippine Nurses Association and Cebu Blood Donors Society participated in the activity. ###
