In observance with the 2018 Adoption Consciousness Celebration, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 through its Adoption Resource and Referral Section (ARRS) held an Adoption Forum in Carmen, Cebu on Tuesday, February 13, 2018.

One of the participants of Adoption Forum held in Carmen, Cebu asks queries regarding the legal process of application of adoption to DSWD-7 Social Welfare Officer III Concepcion Solera.

The forum was participated by four Local Government Units (LGUs) of Cebu Province, namely the municipalities of Liloan, Compostela, Carmen and Danao City. Members of the Central Visayas Adoptive Parents Association (CVAPA) and other potential adoptive parents also participated in the activity.

Prior to the Adoption Forum, the participants attended the motorcade from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of Liloan to the Municipality of Carmen.

With the celebration’s theme this year “Pagmamahal Palaganapin, Legal na Pag-aampon Ating Gawin!” the forum aims to strongly advocate legal adoption to those couple interested in assuming parental responsibility of a child whose biological parents have voluntarily or involuntarily given up their parental rights.

Adoption Forum speaker and Social Welfare Officer III Concepcion Solera, encouraged everyone to advocate legal adoption and avoid simulated birth adoption.

“If you happen to know someone who has committed simulated birth adoption, please advise them to immediately visit our field office to undergo with the legal process of application for adoption and avoid legal charges,” stated Solera.

The significant objective of the adoption which is to enable a child who is legally free or eligible for adoption, to benefit from family life and become a permanent member of a family who can give him/her love, protection and opportunities for growth and development was also discussed by Solera during the forum.

Series of adoption related queries from members of various LGUs and CVAPA members were also catered during the latter part of the Adoption Forum. ###
