The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 7 has provided assistance to the drought-stricken local government units (LGUs).

Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre said that as of now, DSWD 7 has served a total of 42 LGUs. She said DSWD will continue to help towns and municipalities affected by the drought.

As of this date, the DSWD office in Central Visayas has given a total of Php 91,583,978.00 worth of assistance to 153,330 affected families in the provinces of Cebu and Bohol.

The amount includes the costs of food assistance and livelihood training conducted by the DSWD.

Since last quarter of 2015, DSWD conducted the livelihood training in the seven municipalities in Bohol in anticipation of the El Nino effects to farmers, fisher folks and their families.

The training provided to 2,063 beneficiaries include loom weaving, hog raising, fish vending, poultry egg production, swine fattening and livestock raising. ###
