The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Visayas delivered 1,700 family food packs for Typhoon Odette affected families in Olango Island.

The Philippine Air Force, and Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office personnel loaded the family food packs to the helicopter for the Typhoon Odette affected families in Olango island, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

Olango Island is composed of eight (8) Lapu-Lapu City barangays, which include Baring, Caw-oy, Sabang, Santa Rosa, Talima, Tingo, Tunga-san, and San Vicente.

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) Central Visayas helicopter airlifted the goods by batch.

The PAF and the Lapu-Lapu City personnel, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), helped in the loading of family food packs in the Mactan-Benito Ebuen Air Base and unloading in Olango Island.

The barangay officials and workers received the goods for distribution to the identified typhoon-affected families.

Salamat nga natagaan ko ani kay karun nga panahon dili pa kami kapanagat ug pirte sad kaguba among balay tungod sa bagyo (I am thankful that I received this food pack because as of now we cannot go fishing and our house was totally damaged by the typhoon),” said Cristita Baring, 63 years old, whose house stood near the seashore.

Cristita shared that because of the pre-emptive evacuation, they were able to escape from danger. They evacuated to the nearby elementary school where meals were provided. The barangay and the City Government of Lapu-Lapu provided the meals.

Cristita Baring from Barangay Tingo receives the family food packs from DSWD-7 staff.

She hoped that they could build a new house and resume fishing as their main livelihood.

The initial delivery of 1,700 family food packs to Lapu-Lapu City forms part of the Department’s augmentation support to LGUs affected by Typhoon Odette.

The DSWD’s FFPs contains six (6) kilos of rice, 10 canned goods, five (5) sachets of coffee, and five (5) sachets of energy drinks, good for three (3) days for a family with five (5) members. ###
