The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VII (DSWD-7) spearheaded the blessing of the Visayas Disaster Response Center (VDRC) earlier today.

The blessing was officiated by Rev. Dave Christopher Cantillas. It was attended by DSWD-7 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre and staff from DSWD Central Office, Field Office VII and United Nations World Food Programme (U.N. WFP).

The VDRC which is located in Brgy. Casuntingan, Mandaue City houses the custom-built mechanized production system designed to rapidly produce 50,000 family food packs in a day, which is able to feed 250,000 people for three days.

The VDRC also features a pallet racking system for improved storage of food packs and warehousing of food and non-food commodities, guaranteeing quality stockpiles of family food packs and other humanitarian assistance ready for distribution.

The VDRC is a continuation of the strategic partnership between DSWD and U.N. WFP to enhance the emergency response in the Philippines.

It is funded by the governments of Australia and the United Kingdom.

The VDRC will be officially inaugurated tomorrow and will be attended by DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman, U.N. WFP Philippines’ Representative and Country Director Praveen Agrawal and U.N. WFP Ambassador Against Hunger KC Concepcion. ###
