“Pray for longer life.”

It is what Lola Constancia, a centenarian from Alcantara, Cebu told everyone who wished to have a longer life just like her in achieving a century age or more.

Lola Constancia emphasized that she had no secret on how she reached her age but instead gave tips to pray to God and be grateful about life no matter how long or short it is.

DSWD staff relays the message in the letter of Felicitation from President Rodrigo Duterte to Lola Constancia for reaching the age of 100.

Wala man ko sekreto pero dili ko hingaon og karne. Ang gusto nako kaonon kay mais, puto, balanghoy, saging ug uban pa nga mga gulay (I have no secret but I rarely eat meat. I prefer eating corn, rice cake, cassava, banana and other vegetables),” said lola if asked about a long life’s secret.

Pagbuot sa Ginoo ang atong kinabuhi,” she said that everything is all up to God on whatever happens in her life.

Born on 30 November 1920, Lola Constancia is currently living with her daughter in Moalboal, Cebu, along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren after her home got damaged by typhoon Odette when it struck last December 2021.

Same with Lola Constancia, other centenarians in Cebu have common thoughts about life and their diet that “Life is a blessing no matter how long or short it is,” and they love to eat healthy foods, especially vegetables.

Since the year started, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has visited 56 centenarians and their families in Region 7 to congratulate their longevity of reaching 100 years old and targets to finish distributing the centenarian gift within March.

Through DSWD, these centenarians received 100,000 pesos from the national government and a felicitation letter for their achievement from President Rodrigo Duterte. ###
