In times of pandemic, the members of the Brgy. Biga Women Workers Association (BBWWA) have not thought of making money and taking advantage of the increasing demand for eggs. Helping their community is group’s top priority. The association helped the needy by sharing some of its produce with the Toledo City Social Welfare Office, Toledo District Hospital and Barangay Local Government Unit especially to the volunteers.

Mihatag mig tag napulo (10) ka trays sa itlog sa City Social Welfare Office, sa Toledo City hospital ug sa barangay kay maayo nalang pud nila nga sila gyud nag serbisyo karon panahon sa pandemic (We gave ten trays of eggs to the City Social Welfare Office, Toledo City hospital and Barangay Biga because as frontliners, these offices serve the most during pandemic),” shared Francisca Abanes, a member of the BBWWA.

The association also helped the community. During the quarantine period, most of the community folks could not go easily to the market to buy food. “Dako kini ug natabang sa mga lumulupyo tungod kay dili naman maka yano og gawas. Busa diri na sila mopalit og itlog sa mubo nga presyo. Daghan usab nakapahimus sa silingan nga barangay (It is a great help to the residents because with this pandemic, theycould hardly go to other places to buy food and other essentials. Our neighbors and our neighboring barangays would come to us to buy eggs for a lesser price),” added Abanes.

Valentina Razula said she is thankful that she joined the association because she is still able to provide for her family. “Wala kaayo mi naka feel og kalisod kay naa man gihapon mi ginagmay nga kita gikan sa itlog (We have not experienced so much hardship because we still earn from our egg business).”

The Brgy. Biga Women Workers Association (BWWA) started its business in 2018 with a 1.9 M seed capital fund from DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program. The association was given the opportunity to open its business that the BBWWA members have been dreaming about. For two (2) years now, they have been producing and selling eggs. The association thank the government and the program for helping women like them find ways to bring additional income to the family. ###
