Despite the challenges of single motherhood, poverty, and limited education, Marigold’s unwavering commitment to her community and leadership in the DSWD KALAHI-CIDSS under the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Program (PMNP) exemplify strength, resilience, and a passion for change.

Born into financial hardship, she only finished high school as her family struggled, cutting short her dreams of further education and a better future.
Yet, this did not weaken her determination.
“Even if we don’t have much, we have each other. That’s what KALAHI-CIDSS taught me: real change starts when people come together,” said Marigold.
As a single mother, Marigold raised her child while striving to improve her barangay for all its children.
Her journey into volunteerism began when she joined the KALAHI-CIDSS-PMNP program, where she saw an opportunity to serve her community and develop as a leader despite her financial difficulties. Her commitment, enthusiasm, and tireless efforts soon earned her well-deserved recognition.
Due to her education, Marigold was appointed Chairperson of the Community Nutrition Sub-Project Management Committee (CNSPMC).
In this leadership role, she fully embraced the principles of community-driven development. She collaborated closely with residents to design and deliver nutrition programs that addressed the community’s unique needs.
PMNP aims to reduce malnutrition, particularly stunting, among children under five years old by strengthening the delivery of nutrition and health services at the local level.
Under Marigold’s guidance, the committee launched initiatives that tackled critical health and nutrition challenges while promoting sustainable development, such as the construction of communal sanitary toilets and community development and social infrastructure that benefitted around 500 beneficiaries.
Challenges
Despite her successes, Marigold faced numerous challenges along the way. Financial constraints were a constant hurdle—attending seminars, traveling to banks, and handling project funds required resources often beyond her reach.
Yet, these challenges never deterred her. Marigold’s commitment to the program and her community remained unwavering, and she worked tirelessly to find solutions, whether it meant seeking out local support or finding creative ways to stretch limited resources.

Marigold’s exemplary service and leadership among the women of her community did not go unnoticed. Her dedication to the KALAHI-CIDSS program eventually led to her becoming a member of the Barangay Health Worker team at Barangay Don E. V. Through this task, she has continued to make a significant impact on the health and welfare of the people she serves.
Today, Marigold’s story is a powerful reminder of the strength that lies in service. Her journey, marked by sacrifice, resilience, and a deep love for her community, proves that being a woman with purpose and passion can lead to lasting change. Marigold continues to inspire those around her, showing that even in the face of adversity, it is possible to make a difference and uplift others.
Marigold’s journey is far from over, and with her heart filled with purpose, she will continue to serve and inspire for many years to come. ###
