Some 87 families received food and non-food items from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7 in the City of Talisay on January 25, 2024.

DSWD-7 worker Dimpnah Diaz, who is also a CAT member, validates a beneficiary’s Disaster Assistance Family Access Card (DAFAC) before releasing food and non-food items in the City of Talisay Sports Complex Evacuation Center on January 26, 2024.

These beneficiaries suffered from a fire that hit Sitio Libra, Barangay Poblacion, and Talisay City on the morning of January 24.

The distribution of relief items is led by DSWD-7 Assistant Regional Director for Administration Tonyson Luther S. Lee, Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) Lilibeth A. Cabiara, along with Talisay City OIC City Social Welfare and Development Officer Coleen Enajada and a representative of the Office of the Vice Mayor.

Representing the Regional Director, ARDA Lee assures the beneficiaries that the Department is always ready to help families in need, especially those affected by disasters, emergencies, and calamities.

Each beneficiary received a family food pack, a sleeping kit, a hygiene kit, and a family kit with a total of PHP 580k worth of assistance.

Based on DSWD-7’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) Report on the Fire Incident as of January 26, the families affected are 93 or 356 individuals.

Of this, 73 families, or 299 individuals, are currently taking temporary shelter in an established evacuation center, while the remaining 20 families, or 57 persons, are outside the camp and staying with their relatives or friends.

For their part, LGU Talisay City has provided hot meals and modular tents. They also prepared to release emergency shelter assistance (ESA) during the weekend.

Meanwhile, the DSWD-7 City Action Team (CAT) assigned to the City of Talisay is also taking shifting duties in the evacuation camp to help their LGU counterparts, provide technical assistance, and report updates and data to the Field Office.

Through its CAT and DRMD staff, DSWD is still in close contact with the LGU and is ready to deliver more augmentation support to the families upon further assessment and the following request. ###
