About 26,195 household beneficiaries in Cebu and Negros Oriental will redeem new food commodities through the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7-Central Visayas partner retailers for the Walang Gutom Program (WGP) in the food redemption for Period 12, which will run for days, starting January 13 until January 22, 2025.
The 15,761 or the majority of the target beneficiaries are those poor residing in 24 municipalities and cities in Negros Oriental. The other 10,434 are residents of 47 towns and cities in Cebu Province.
They can redeem their pre-order food package worth P3,000 using Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards at the partner retailers in their respective municipalities and cities.
Some beneficiaries can also redeem their goods through mobile stores at specific venues identified by the local government units (LGUs). For this period, there are 37 partner stores in Cebu and 47 in Negros Oriental.
Each EBT card contains PHP 3,000 in food credits from DSWD-WGP to redeem food commodities, with 50% (PHP1,500) allocated to carbohydrates, 30% (PHP 900) for proteins, and 20% (PHP 600) for fruits and vegetables.
These are the municipalities and cities with scheduled food redemption in Cebu next week: Tuburan, Argao, Barili, Dumanjug, Malabuyoc, San Francisco, Asturias, Toledo City, Badian, Consolacion, Balamban, Dalaguete, Alegria, Talisay, Lapu-Lapu, Poro, Ronda, Sibonga, Carcar City, Cordova, Medellin, Carmen, Catmon, Aloguinsan, Compostela, Danao City, Pinamungahan, Alcoy, Boljoon, Oslob, City of Naga, Madridejos, Pilar, San Fernando, Santa Fe, Sogod, Borbon, Liloan, Cebu City, Mandaue City, Daanbantayan, San Remigio, Tabuelan, Tabogon, Moalboal, Minglanilla, and Bantayan.
Meanwhile, the period of redemption will also take place in the following municipalities and cities in Negros Oriental: Amlan, Ayungon, Bacong, Bais City, Basay, Bindoy, Canlaon City, Jimalalud, La Libertad, Mabinay, Manjuyod, San Jose, Santa Catalina, Siaton, Sibulan, Tanjay, Tayasan, Valencia, Vallehermoso, Zamboanguita, Bayawan City, Pamplona, Guihulngan City, and Dumaguete City.
The upcoming food redemption has doubled the target beneficiaries compared to the Period 11 redemption, which only had a target of 13,170 household beneficiaries. The increase in beneficiaries is part of the program expansion, which commenced in July 2024.
DSWD Walang Gutom Program is consistent with its objective to decrease involuntary hunger and malnutrition experienced by low-income households while helping them become productive citizens of the country. ###
