The team of Disaster Response Information Management Section (DRIMS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7 – Central Visayas trained some 42 participants composed of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC) members and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) staff of Dumaguete City on Disaster Response Operation Management Information and Communication (DROMIC) reporting from November 20-22, 2024.

Members of BDRRMC in Dumaguete City participated in the DROMIC workshop simulation exercise led by the DSWD-7 DRIMS team.

The hands-on training happened in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Dumaguete City, led by the City Social Welfare Development Office and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) together with DSWD 7 DROMIC Focal Person Maribeth E. Belleza Bachoco-Belleza along with Report Writers Raquel Abello and Sheena Melicor and GIS Specialist Elmer Cosio.

Highlights of the workshop include learning the know-how of managing disaster information, utilizing GIS tools, mastering updated DROMIC guidelines, and simulation exercises where participants practiced turning real-time data into actionable reports.

According to one of the participants, the said training enabled her to understand more about how DROMIC reporting works. “It was impressive. I have learned so many things from IMT and connected siya sa DROMIC, so I realized it is easier this time around, dali na lang siya ipasa and more accurate na ang mga data na ma-receive,” said Hon. Gardenia Teodora Pajunar, one of the local officials who participated in the workshop.

Moreover, Ms. Maribeth Belleza stated that the workshop will allow the participants to strengthen their local disaster response efforts to help build a safer and more resilient community. “We are grateful to the local government of Dumaguete City for this opportunity to facilitate the workshop. It will help improve and advance their efforts for local disaster response in their communities.” Belleza shared.

A DROMIC Report is DSWD’s disaster reporting tool, which reflects data on monitored disaster incidents in a particular affected area, including the coordinated efforts among government agencies, non-government organizations, and Local Government Units (LGUs), which is essential for an effective and unified response to disasters. It also highlights information on response efforts from the DSWD Central and Field offices. ###
