The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 7—Central Visayas provided the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Canlaon with technical assistance on donation management for the families affected by the recent eruption of Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Oriental.

Personnel from the local government of Canlaon and the DSWD 7 Field Office receive the 30 sacks of rice from the Social Action Center in the Diocese of San Carlos.

Based on DSWD guidelines on the management and processing of donations, all donations should be recorded and accounted for, including the number of donated items, kinds of items, and valuation of items and how they will be properly distributed to the different evacuation camps.

The LGU of Canlaon installed a donations desk at the Incident Command Post (ICP) located at the Canlaon City Tourism Office to accept donations from private individuals and institutions. The donation desk is managed by personnel from LGU Canlaon and assisted by DSWD-7.

Since the start of the disaster response operation, the LGU of Canlaon has received several donated items such as distilled water, powdered milk, instant noodles, diapers, fresh and dried fish, biscuits, canned goods, rice, face masks, and kitchen utensils, which the LGU distributed in the different evacuation camps identified in the city.

Meanwhile, the DSWD-7 supports the call for donations by the LGU of Canlaon to help address the immediate needs of more than 5,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are living within the six-kilometer permanent danger zone.

Donors are encouraged to consider the essential items needed by the IDPs, like diapers for children and adults, perishable food like meat, fish, and vegetables, firewood, kitchens and cooking utensils like large cooking pots and pans, distilled water, water containers or tubs for water storage, toiletries like soaps, toothbrushes, and toothpaste, sleeping mats, shower curtains, and other essential items.

For cash donations, donors may hand the money to the donation desk officer, wherein the LGU Canlaon will issue an official receipt reflecting the amount given. Those who want to send through bank donors may refer to the details below.

As of December 17, 2024, the LGU Canlaon has opened a total of ten (10) evacuation camps, where a total of more than 5,000 IDPs take temporary shelter, namely, Camp 1 at the Macario Española Memorial School, Camp 2 at the Jose B.
