The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office Region 7—Central Visayas joined the 4th Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill led by the DSWD 7 Disaster Control Group (DCG) on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

The Center and Residential Care Facilities (CRCFs) and the DSWD 7 Regional Warehouse in Labangon, Cebu demonstrates a rescue simulation to an injured individual during the 4th Quarter of NSED 2024.

The DSWD 7 staff of main and extension buildings, headed by Assistant Regional Director for Administration Tonyson Luther Lee, participated in the activity.

Meanwhile, residents and staff of the Center and Residential Care Facilities (CRCFs) and the DSWD 7 Regional Warehouse staff, all in Labangon, Cebu City, also joined the activity led by AVRC II Vocational Training Center Superintendent Dr. Jera C. Armendarez.

The drill allowed the participants to practice safety procedures before, during, and after an earthquake, utilizing the “duck, cover, and hold” emergency steps. Further, the CRFCs and Regional Warehouse drill featured simulation exercises on potential injuries and accidents that may occur during an earthquake, such as fire and head or neck injuries.

Furthermore, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO) evaluated the simulation highlighting the importance of being responsive during an actual earthquake.

Moreover, ARDA Lee reminded the staff to stay alert and follow emergency procedures always to mitigate risks and injuries.

The Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) is a quarterly exercise raising public awareness and enhancing earthquake preparedness. ###
