Clean-up drives are one of the initiatives that many organizations, like the Association of Regional Executives of National Government Agencies in Region 7 (ARENA 7), take to spread awareness and educate the public on the importance of environmental conservation.

As a member of ARENA 7, DSWD Field Office 7—Central Visayas joined the activity, manifesting and demonstrating its environmental stewardship and social responsibility. The DSWD 7 team helped clean and clear waste in the identified area in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

The DSWD team collected 18 kilos of single-use plastic, seven (7) kilos of food packaging, six (6) kilos of PET bottles, nine (9) kilos of styrofoam, one pack of glass, four (4) sacks of mixed bamboo poles, and wood.

I am glad to have joined the clean-up drive because I gained additional knowledge about garbage segregation, especially the different kinds of plastic materials, that not all can be be placed together in one container),” said Allan Sumagingsing, a DSWD staff who took part of the activity.

Sumagingsing said he shared what he learned from the activity with his family members and encouraged everyone to start the clean-up in their homes and offices.

DSWD 7 Regional Director Shalaine Lucero shared that environmental clean-up activities made her think more deeply about innovating and helping how people, particularly the agency staff, reduce waste and be better stewards of resources. ###
