The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 7—Central Visayas administered the Family Assistance Card in Emergencies and Disasters (FACED) to Internally Displaced Families (IDFs) affected by the recent eruption of Mt. Kanlaon, who are temporarily staying in the different evacuation camps in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental.

The DSWD Field Office 7 – Central Visayas camp personnel administer the Family Assistance Card in Emergencies and Disasters (FACED) to an Internally Displaced Family (IDF) currently taking shelter in Camp 8 at St. Joseph College of Canlaon City, Inc.

The DSWD uses FACED as a tool to gather demographic and socioeconomic data from families affected by disasters, including name, age, sex, education, and income, and post-disaster data, information about shelter damage, and information about humanitarian assistance received.

It is key to ensuring that government agencies and other stakeholders can effectively coordinate their response efforts and rehabilitation programs for the families affected by the recent Mt. Kanlaon eruption.

“Effective data management is important for a more fast-tracked provision of services, especially to disaster-affected families like the IDFs currently taking shelter in the evacuation camps. Hence, our camp personnel work double time in the administration of FACED and the encoding of the information gathered through FACED,” said Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero.

The data gathered through FACED will be entered into the FACED – Information System (IS).

Formerly known as the Disaster Assistance Family Access Card (DAFAC), FACED has undergone updates and enhancements to fulfill its purpose effectively.

As of December 19, 2024, the DSWD-7 has distributed 9,165 family food packs valued at Php 5,625,726.00. Each IDF received five (5) family food packs sufficient to feed a family of five for twenty days for breakfast. The City Government of Canlaon supplies the food provision for lunch and dinner to the evacuation camps.

In addition to food assistance, IDFs have received non-food items such as hygiene kits, family kits, and sleeping kits,

Modular tents, family tents, and laminated sacks were also provided to some evacuation camps.

As of December 19, 2024, nine evacuation camps have been established across Canlaon City, providing temporary shelter to 1,738 internally displaced families. These facilities include Camp 1 at Macario Española Memorial School, Camp 2 at Jose B. Cardenas Memorial High School – Uptown Campus, Camp 3 at Jose B. Cardenas Memorial High School – Main Campus, Camp 4 at Canlaon City Sports and Cultural Center, Camp 5 at Panubigan Elementary School, Camp 6 at Binalbagan Elementary School, Camp 7 at Bayog Elementary School, Camp 8 at St. Joseph College of Canlaon City, Inc., and Camp 9 at Linothangan Elementary School.

The DSWD is actively collaborating with the Canlaon Local Government Unit (LGU) and various stakeholders to ensure the well-being and support of the displaced families. ###
