Cebu City honored DSWD 7 with a plaque of appreciation for its unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment and its leadership in the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking-Violence Against Women and Children (IACAT7-VAWC).

In addition, Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero received special recognition for her significant contributions to advancing women’s rights and fostering a strong partnership between DSWD 7 and the Cebu City Government.

Division Chief for Protective Services Emma F. Patalinghug, Women Welfare Sector Focal Person Ananisa F. Aviso, Center Head for Regional Haven for Women Evaine Gladys L. Manzano, and IACAT7-VAWC Secretariat Xhelxea Francesca A. Lerios accepted the awards on behalf of DSWD 7.

Although unable to attend the ceremony due to a crucial engagement in Metro Manila, Director Lucero shared an inspiring message: “Our fight for women’s empowerment and the elimination of violence and abuse is far from over. While we have come a long way, much has to be done. But with a stronger network of women who share the same vision, we will continue to make a difference.”

She emphasized that the recognition is not just for her but for all the women advocates behind the cause—DSWD staff, partner stakeholders, and every woman who perseveres to stand up from the circumstances they are in.

“One day, we will all look back with pride at what we have accomplished and acknowledge the impact that we have made. I urge everyone to remain steadfast in our commitment because we are exactly where we need to be—at the forefront of this movement, with all the women of Central Visayas behind us,” she added.

As co-chair of IACAT7-VAWC, DSWD 7 leads the council of government agencies and non-government organizations in addressing critical issues affecting women and children, particularly Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC), Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), and Trafficking in Persons. ###
