The Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas celebrated its 50th anniversary on September 30, 2024, at the AVRC II Covered Court in Brgy. Labangon, Cebu City.
Anchored on the theme, “Innovating and Flourishing in the Golden Horizon, Excellence in Transforming and Empowering Lives,” the 50-year celebration of AVRC II manifested its commitment to supporting the sector of persons with disabilities.
The newly installed center head, Dr. Jera C. Armendarez, reminded those who have been part of AVRC II that its doors remain open for the community of persons with disabilities to help them become competitive and productive members of society.
Referring to the anniversary seal installed at the facility entrance, Dr. Armendarez said it is a reminder of the principles that founded the facility—looking at the welfare of persons with disabilities.
“When we look at our seal, we are reminded of our forebears who have built this institution and led it to where it is today. We will not forget those who came before us as we move forward. Because of them, the paths we will take—although they will never be easy—are clear for us to reach a wider and greater horizon,” she said.
She also shared that under her stint as the new center head, she plans to deploy strategies for the institution’s success, introduce innovations to address gaps in the delivery of the center’s services, ensure a conducive environment for both trainees and staff, and enhance partnerships and engagements with stakeholders.
During the foundation day ceremony, key stakeholders—partners, former and current staff, and former and current trainees—were recognized for their contributions to the AVRC II. A distinguished guest speaker delivered a keynote address in person of the Chief Executive Officer of Wellmade Motors and Development Corporation, an advocate for the sector, Mr. Philip N. Tan.
AVRC II 50th anniversary had a spirited celebration in reminiscing their past with hope in mind for the future. The long history of learning and friendship within the center has inspired many persons with disabilities to grow and reach their milestones.
Since its inception, AVRC II has produced a total of 2,169 graduates. ###
