The atmosphere inside the AVRC gym last Tuesday, May 7, 2024, hits a different kind of heat as the budding rivalry of the Yellow and Green Team faces off in an all-out war for the Women Volleyball Championship for the season finale of DSWD FO7 Sports Fest 2024.
Both teams showed impressive games intensified by the team’s supporters.
The Green Team pulled the rug under Yellow with 25-20, 25-23, and 25-23, sweeping the three sets to win the championship.
The green team, who just wanted to enjoy the game and give it their all, did not expect to reach the finals.
Likewise, the teamwork of the red team catapulted them to win against the blue team in a deciding game 5 to get the 3rd spot for the 2024 volleyball championship.
It was a very close fight as both teams won alternately in every set: Blue 25-14, Red 25-17, Blue 25-18, Red 25-13, and Red 15-6.
The DSWD Sportsfest 2024 officially opened on February 21, 2024, at Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II (AVRC II) in Labangon, Cebu City. It was an opening salvo for the department’s 73rd anniversary with the theme “DSWD Angels in Red Vests: Empathy in Action,Integrity in Service, Unity in Community”.
The opening salvo was attended by Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Alumni Mr. Slater Young, and Paul Jake Castillo together with his wife, the actress Kaye Abad, who spent some time with the Angels in Red Vests (ARV) as they served as judges for the hip-hop dance contest and the search for Mr. and Ms. Sports Ambassador.
During the Opening Salvo, Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero, as the first DSWD Angels in Red Vests awardee reminded everyone to treat the activities as a friendly competition and enjoy the event. “We are all Angels in Red Vests, we are all champions,” said RD Lucero. She encouraged everyone to have fun and magpakabana sa kanunay.
The five teams include the Yellow Team, which is composed of staff from Centers and Institutions; the Green Team, the Office of the Regional Director (ORD), Policy and Plans Division (PPD), and Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD); Blue Team are from the Protective Services Division (PSD) and Commission on Audit (COA); Orange Team that have members from the Administrative Division, General Administration and Support Services Division (GASSD), Human Resource Management and Development Division (HRMDD), Finance Management Division (FMD), and Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC); and the Red Team which comprises of Promotive Division and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). ###
