Persons with disabilities (PWD) who attended the 20-day implementation of Project LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) at BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished) in Larena, Siquijor, expressed that they felt welcomed throughout the program’s implementation, which manifested that the program is true to its mission of inclusive farming.

Some 150 partner-beneficiaries of Project LAWA at BINHI gather at the Larena Queengate Center in Siquijor for the payout following the 20-day implementation.

Hannah Mae Pepito, a 29-year-old PWD and one of the partner-beneficiaries of Project LAWA’s Cash-for-Work/Training Program, shared that despite her visual impairment, the farming community in Larena embraced her as one of their own.

Similarly, Adonis Balesteros, also a person with a disability and partner beneficiary, stated that participating in the 20-day program empowered him to contribute fully to his community.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 7 Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero reaffirmed the agency’s commitment.

“At DSWD Region 7, we are steadfast in ensuring persons with disabilities lead dignified, fulfilling lives. Through inclusive programs like the Cash‑for‑Work/Training, we empower them to engage actively in the community and contribute meaningfully to society. Under DSWD’s programs, we leave no one behind; every Filipino has a place and purpose,” RD Lucero shared.

Lilibeth Cabiara, Chief of DSWD‑7’s Disaster Response Management Division, added that the Risk Resiliency Program (RRP) under Project LAWA at BINHI encourages local governments to adopt inclusive farming practices. “In response to evolving challenges, our division continually adapts to meet the needs of our communities. A key part of this effort is urging Local Government Units to adopt inclusive farming—so everyone, regardless of background or ability, can participate.” Cabiara said.

On July 4, 2025, 150 partner beneficiaries in Larena received ₱10,020 in cash assistance through the RRP Project LAWA at BINHI program; among them were Hannah Mae and Adonis. ###
