To enhance the capabilities of its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) personnel, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7 (DSWD 7) conducted a week-long technical assistance training on the use and management of the DSWD Water Treatment System and Mobile Kitchen.

WET Industries personnel demonstrate the operation of the Mobile Water Truck and Water Treatment System before participants conduct their demonstrations.

During the sessions, experts from WET Industries provided comprehensive orientations on the Mobile Water Treatment System, covering topics such as process flow, water treatment principles, operating procedures, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.

Participants, including DRMD staff and disaster response teams from various agencies such as the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs) from Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Talisay City, engaged in hands-on demonstrations to ensure proficiency in operating the equipment.

Moreover, they conducted water quality tests that confirmed the treated water met safety standards for consumption. Meanwhile, DSWD 7 organized an orientation on the use of the Mobile Kitchen, with key speakers from the Disaster Response Management Bureau (DRMB). The session focused on the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, mobile kitchen deployment strategies, and meal-planning protocols.

The training took place at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II in Cebu City from May 19 to 23, 2025.

Strengthening Disaster Response in Central Visayas

The newly acquired mobile facilities provide immediate assistance to communities affected by disasters, ensuring that displaced families receive hot meals and clean water during emergencies.

Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero emphasized the importance of equipping disaster response teams with the necessary tools and knowledge to manage disaster situations effectively. “These mobile kitchens and water treatment units are crucial in ensuring that disaster-stricken communities receive immediate assistance,” she stated. “Through this training, we aim to enhance our preparedness and response capabilities, ensuring that we can serve our communities more effectively during times of crisis.”

DSWD 7 aims to build a more resilient and responsive disaster management system in the region by providing hands-on training and fostering collaboration among various agencies and local government units. ###
