In its third year, the DSWD Field Office 7 distributed gifts to residents and clients of its centers and residential care facilities during the “Balik Sigla, Bigay Saya” event on December 8, 2024.
A total of 73 individuals from the Reception and Study Center for Children, Home for Girls, Regional Haven for Women, and the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth, attended the nationwide simultaneous gift-giving activity of the Department.
Each received a gift pack, which contained a raincoat, a pack of colored pens, hand and face towels, pairs of socks, a watch, pillow, a thermal tumbler, and a trolley bag.
Former Regional Center Coordinator Aileen G. Cuevas expressed the significance of this occasion: “Our mission is to bring joy and happiness to these children, who are temporarily seeking shelter in our centers during the Yuletide season.”
Many of these young individuals have faced unimaginable challenges, often being victims of abuse or navigating difficult circumstances. “We want to ensure that, during this festive season, we can give them something meaningful–something that brings a bit of joy into their lives,” she added.
During the gift-giving, residents and clients were also entertained with games and treated with food and snacks.
Year three
In 2022, the Office of the President launched the Balik Sigla, Bigay Saya initiative, a heartwarming program designed to bring the spirit of the holiday season to children residing in various child-care agencies and institutions across the Philippines. This initiative seeks to remind these young individuals and women that they are remembered, allowing them to experience the joy and happiness synonymous with the festivities.
The event emphasizes the true meaning of Christmas—celebrating joy, happiness, and gratitude. “It is a moment when we can see the smiles on the faces of children and the hope they cling to each day,” DSWD 7 Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero shared, highlighting the profound impact of this annual gathering.
Cuevas, who organized the event in DSWD Central Visayas Centers and Residential Care Facilities (CRCFs), expressed her enthusiasm saying, “We always look forward to this event each year. More so our residents and clients who receive the gifts,” she added.
This heartfelt initiative serves as a reminder that the essence of Christmas lies in sharing joy and ensuring that every child feels valued and remembered, regardless of their situation. ###
