The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7 (DSWD) has announced the top three (3) provincial winners of the 2024 Search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya from Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
After rigorous cluster and provincial desk validations, the winners will now be the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) ambassadors in their respective communities.
The Bohol provincial winner is the Doblas family from Batuan, while the second and third placers are the Tiongson family of Batuan and the Mascariño family from Getafe, respectively.
The provincial winner of Cebu is the Icot family from the town of Liloan. The second placer is the Dela Peña family from Barili, while the third is the Santillan family from Madridejos.
The Negros Oriental provincial winners are the following: Fortuito family of Sibulan, first place; Morato family of Siaton, second place; and Buenaflor family of Guihulngan City, third place.
Siquijor provincial winners include the Encina family of Siquijor town, in first place; Cabaong of Siquijor town, in second place; and the Calunod family of Lazi, in third place.
“These families exemplified strong family ties, demonstrated positive Filipino values, and contributed time and effort to their community,” said DSWD-7 Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero.
She added that their stories are truly inspirational and worthy of emulation by other 4Ps family beneficiaries, especially in supporting their children to pursue their education.
“Through this Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya search, we can disprove the misconception that 4Ps beneficiaries become too dependent on government aid and underscore the value of determination and unity within the family to achieve their dreams,” Director Lucero added.
The following criteria are the basis for the selection of the Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya selection:
1) maintaining strong family ties and harmonious relationships and upholding Filipino values despite the challenges brought about by poverty (25%);
2) family who strives to improve living conditions amid difficult situations (20%);
3) a family that is actively involved in community activities (20%);
4) a family that positively talks about family relations worthy of emulation (20%); and
5) a family that practices and promotes healthy living and takes care of the environment (15%).
The provincial winners will receive cash incentives and certificates of recognition from DSWD.
Judges during the provincial search were from partner national government agencies, provincial governments, and partner civil society organizations (CSOs).
The provincial first-place winners will compete in the regional-level search on August 22, 2024.
The 4Ps is the government’s major poverty alleviation program that invests in the health, nutrition, and education of poor households eligible for the program. Together with the psychosocial and educational components provided through the Family Development Session (FDS), the beneficiaries will have improved and sustained well-being. Implemented through DSWD, the program was institutionalized in 2019 by Republic Act 11310, or the 4Ps Act. ###
