In celebration of the culmination of the 2024 National Disaster Resilience Month, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7—Central Visayas, through the Disaster Response Management Division, held a series of activities for staff on July 31, 2024.
Assistant Regional Director for Operations Juanito C. Cantero opened the activity. He encouraged all participants to listen attentively in preparation for unfavorable circumstances that may happen and for the activation of the Quick Response Team.
He added that through this, they would be able to clearly understand the mandate of the Department in providing augmentation support and ensuring the welfare of disaster- or emergency-affected families and individuals.
The culminating activity started with an orientation on the risk resilience program and the Disaster Response Operations Management Information and Communications (DROMIC).
The participants listened to a comprehensive overview and implementation updates on Project LAWA at BINHI, or Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished. The staff also familiarize themselves with the enhanced DROMIC Guidelines to better understand its importance and relevance in disaster and response operations.
Then, a new set of participants had an educational tour of the Visayas Disaster Resource Center. During this visit, staff witnessed the DSWD preparedness for response operations, including the production of family food packs.
DSWD Field Office 7, as vice chair for the Disaster Response Cluster of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, continues to strengthen its staff’s preparedness and knowledge of disaster and response operations. ###
