The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Visayas joined the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair in the municipality of Alegria in southern Cebu on June 15, 2024.

Director Lucero hands over the cash assistance to a select beneficiary during the ceremonial turnover.

DSWD and the other participating government agencies joined the caravan organized by the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) in the town’s sports complex to bring government services closer to the people.

Some 1,550 individuals received financial assistance of Php 4,000 each through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations, or AICS, one of the social protection programs of DSWD that provides different types of assistance to families or individuals in need.

These individuals are from the towns of the 7th District of Cebu, namely, Alcantara, Alegria, Badian, Dumanjug, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Moalboal, and Ronda, who were identified by their local government unit before the caravan and assessed by DSWD.

DSWD, one of the government agencies present, set up a booth to share information about its programs and services and a Public Assistance and Complaints Desk to accommodate participants with their queries.

Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero, who led the distribution, said that DSWD distributed Php 6.2 million worth of financial assistance. “The Department is very supportive of the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair. We always ensure that our presence will highlight the government’s efforts to bring our services closer to the people and increase public knowledge about our programs that the public should know and possibly avail themselves of,” the director said.

BPSF in Central Visayas

Launched by the President, the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair continues to bring government services to the least fortunate Filipinos.

DSWD has been participating in the caravan by distributing family food packs and financial aid, sharing information, accommodating inquiries, and displaying livelihood products from its partner beneficiaries.

Since its launching in the Central Visayas region, a total of 31,659 individuals have benefited from the cash aid, and 8,662 received the food packs.

It will continue to bring services to the rest of the provinces in the region. ###
