A Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) kid went out with his friend and found Php 43,000.00.
The eleven-year-old Jayricson Acogido was with his friend Prince Azel Pateño when they noticed a pack of money left along the street in Barangay Estaca, Compostela, a northeast town in Cebu.
“Nakit-an namo unhan ra sa among balay ug nakuyawan kami kung unsaon to siya kay wala pa kami nakakita ingun ato kadaghang kwarta (We found it just near our house and we were dreadful on what to do with it because we have never seen that amount of money before),” recalled Jayricson.
After a moment of reflection, the two kids did the right thing by turning over the money to the barangay.
Luckily, another passerby saw them and asked what they found. The passerby told the children to ride on his motorcycle and brought them to the barangay hall.
“Dakong garbo natong mga Estacanhon sa mga bata nga maghatag ug ehimplo natong tanan (These children are Estacanhons’ pride because they showed a good example to all of us),” said Barangay Councilor Sidney Boquia in his Facebook post.
Councilor Boquia added in his social media post “Kining mga bata nakakita ug dakong kantidad nga salapi ug ila gayud gi turn over sa atong barangay (These children saw a big amount of money and they turn-over it in our barangay).”
Compostela Municipal Mayor Froilan Quiño praised the honesty and good deed of Jayricson and Prince Azel and called them “Mga Batang Bayani” or Hero Kids.
Mayor Quiño also acknowledged the parents of the two children for raising them well and to the Estaca Integrated School for the lessons and values they taught the young minds.
For Jayricson, returning other people’s money was the right thing to do.
Eldest of six siblings, Jayricson is currently in grade five. He dreamed of becoming a Policeman someday.
“Ganahan ko mag Police kay gusto ko makatabang sa uban (I want to become a Policeman because I want to help others),” said Jayricson.
As a 4Ps child-beneficiary, he hopes to finish his studies and plans to help his younger siblings. ###
