Hindi man kayo ang nasa frontline na nagbibigay ng relief goods, pero what you are doing here right now is equally important because kung wala kayong nire-repack, wala kaming mabibigay doon sa Northern Cebu, kaya from the bottom of our hearts, Maraming maraming salamat sa inyong lahat,” said DSWD Rex Gatchalian.

He emphasized the vital role of the volunteers in supporting the relief efforts for the families affected by the earthquake in Northern Cebu.

His visit highlighted an important point: disaster response depends on many unseen but essential people. Secretary Gatchalian expressed gratitude to the volunteers and emphasized the link between human effort and technology.

He also led the media and guests on a tour of the VDRC’s New Mechanized Production System (NMPS), an advanced machine that significantly boosts their support efforts.

This state-of-the-art system vacuum-seals rice and packs food at an impressive speed, producing up to 30,000 family food packs daily. This innovation allows volunteers to focus on filling the boxes with canned goods, coffee, and drinks, ensuring each package is complete.

The work is far from finished. With the first wave of aid delivered, the VDRC is now preparing for a second, larger wave of relief operations, aiming to send over 200,000 additional boxes to the most affected communities.

The VDRC needs volunteers to help with repacking family food packs. Your time can help turn the tide for a family in crisis. ###
