As the Chair of the Regional Council for the Welfare of Children and Co-Chairperson of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking 7—Violence Against Women and Their Children, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in partnership with various agencies, spearheaded a month-long celebration of Safer Internet Month in February 2026. The initiative focused on promoting online safety, educating the public on the dangers of online threats, and fostering responsible internet use among children across the Philippines.

The DSWD Field Office 7 Social Technology Unit launched the Project SAFE: School-Based Enhanced Advocacy Campaign at Mambaling Elementary School.

In line with the celebration, various activities were lined up throughout the month to engage communities, raise awareness, and provide valuable information on how to stay safe online.

In February 2026, the Social Marketing Unit (SMU) shared weekly online safety tips every Tuesday. On February 8, a live radio broadcast discussed Safer Internet Month, focusing on youth involvement in digital safety, with insights from DSWD, DICT, and PNP. DSWD held a convocation to promote online safety for families and communities on February 9, followed by an educational event on February 10 at Mambaling National High School, addressing online child exploitation. The same day, DSWD, DICT, and PNP representatives appeared on Cebu Catholic Television Network to raise awareness.

On February 11, an OSAEC orientation with Kansai University’s International Studies department focused on child protection laws, while on February 13, DSWD hosted a Valentine’s Day event promoting digital love and online safety. A Story Reels Contest in February encouraged youth to share ideas on internet safety, and on February 25, DSWD-IAC held an art exhibit to highlight the dangers of online exploitation and promote internet safety.

The Safer Internet Campaign aims to create a more informed and vigilant society, ensuring that everyone—from children to adults—can enjoy the benefits of the internet without falling victim to its risks. The government continues to enhance its efforts to protect vulnerable communities, ensuring swift response to emerging digital threats. ###
