The DSWD brings together residents of its facilities nationwide to share a unified Christmas celebration, reaffirming its commitment to bringing warmth and joy to vulnerable groups every holiday season.

These nationwide gatherings create a meaningful celebration for residents, spotlighting unity and the holiday spirit at year’s end.
Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero noted that the agency has held this annual year-end gathering for three consecutive years. “We owe this to Secretary Rex Gatchalian, who ensures our residents experience the warmth and joy of the Christmas season,” she said.
She explained that the celebration was conducted simultaneously across the country through a unified program, broadcast via teleconference to other centers within the DSWD Centers and Residential Care Facilities (CRCF) group.
“The program is simple: to ensure that children, women, and other vulnerable groups enjoy Christmas Day through gift-giving, specially prepared meals, games, and performances from the residents themselves,” Director Lucero added.
In Central Visayas, four residential facilities—the Reception and Study Center for Children (for abandoned children), the Home for Girls (for abused girl children), and the Regional Haven for Women (for women in especially difficult circumstances), all in Cebu City—gathered together for the celebration, while the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (for children in conflict with the law) in Argao, Cebu, held a separate gathering.
Director Lucero led the celebration at the CRCFs in Cebu City, emphasizing the true meaning of Christmas—loving one another.

There may be many reasons to celebrate Christmas, foremost of which is the birth of Jesus, our Savior. However, I want to highlight love, hope, and compassion, which should guide all of us to do good and become better individuals,” she said.
She also reminded residents that the celebration continues despite the circumstances that brought them to DSWD facilities. “Our goal is to provide a true home away from home. The DSWD team serves you gladly, even choosing to spend Christmas Day here rather than with our families. We hope this gathering brightens your perspective and reminds you that you are loved. We are here to offer compassion whenever you need it; that is our mission,” Director Lucero said.
A magic show and mini-concert brought joy to the women and children at the Cebu City residential facilities. Meanwhile, in Argao, live bands performed for children in conflict with the law, offering them an afternoon of music and entertainment.
At the end of the gathering, residents shared that the Christmas message serves as a meaningful reminder to love one another, nurture self-love, and recognize that home is wherever there is care and compassion.
Currently, 78 CICLs are admitted to RRCY and are undergoing rehabilitation and formation programs, while 29 women are at the Haven for Women, 33 girls are at the Home for Girls, and 26 children are at RSCC, all receiving rehabilitation or temporary shelter. ###
