The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7—Central Visayas has coordinated with various government agencies and the local government unit of Mandaue City to establish a tent city for families whose houses were washed out by floods caused by Typhoon Tino.

DSWD Engineer Ivan Noel Catacutan presents the layout for the proposed tent city in Brgy. Guizo, Mandaue City.

On November 26, 2025, DSWD-7 Quick Response Team Focal Person for Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Mildred Abela, together with DSWD Engineer Ivan Noel Catacutan, visited the proposed site for the tent city in Brgy. Guizo, Mandaue City.

DSWD-7 will provide 300 tents for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) who will relocate to the tent city. The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is set to install 100 prefabricated container-van units.

The city’s Social Welfare Services, Human and Urban Development Office, City Engineering Office, and the Mandaue City local government also joined the site visit.

DSWD-7 Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero said the agency is committed to ensuring the tent city’s proper establishment and that its setup will comply with the agency’s standards for camp management.

“We at DSWD-7 want to assure everyone that the tent city will be built according to our agency’s camp-management standards, so families seeking refuge will have a safe and comfortable place to stay. To make sure that no one goes hungry, we will deploy our mobile kitchen and water tanker to support the site. We are committed to looking after our fellow Sugbuanon every step of the way.” Lucero said.

Based on initial data provided by the LGU, about 200 families are expected to take shelter at the tent city. ###
