Three Pantawid beneficiaries in Mandaue City believed that volunteerism shall help lessen suffering and hasten recovery of people affected during difficult times.

Christian Maluya, one of the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer – Homeless Street Families (MCCT-HST) monitored children from barangay Labogon, volunteered in their barangay in the implementation of the Social Amelioration Program.

Christian Maluya volunteers as an encoder for the SAC forms in Mandaue City.

In his latest task, Maluya assisted in the SAP encoding and uploading along with other local government staff and DSWD staff because he is known to be computer savvy.

Sa pagpanghatag sa maong ayuda hangtod sa pag-encode sa maong mga beneficiaries data, dili gayud sayon para namong mga validator/ encoder/ uploading team (From giving of assistance to the encoding of beneficiaries’ data, our tasks are never easy for validators, encoders, and the uploading team), ” Maluya said that they encountered SAC forms that were difficult to read and had discrepancies which took time to clarify.

Since the beginning of volunteering in their community, Maluya said that he has witnessed the untiring efforts of the DSWD staff and other people behind the SAP implementation in delivering assistance to the beneficiaries.

Aside from Maluya, other Pantawid beneficiaries, Aquelino Gandionko from brgy. Labogon and Cecil Mary Militante from brgy. Paknaan also spent their time and effort to help ease up the burdens of community and social workers in their respective barangays in Mandaue City in implementing the program that provides financial assistance to poor families that struggle to live during this pandemic.

These Pantawid volunteers helped in interviewing families, assisting some families in filling-out the SAC form, verifying, encoding, and other tasks involved in the SAP implementation.

Gandionko shared that while volunteering for SAP implementation, it tested his patience and commitment in dealing with people and identifying those deserving families for the emergency subsidy.

Nakasulay gyud mi na gihagisan (We experienced being harassed),” said Gandionko.

Gandionko said that there are also better experiences he had at work such as when people thanked them and seeing those poor deserving families happy while claiming their assistance.

Militante said that this is her way of giving back and thanking the government and the people for helping improve their lives.

Militante added that she has received harsh comments and complaints while volunteering but seeing smiles from people that received assistance keeps her going.

Didto nako nakita nga pinaagi sa maong programa daghan diay mi ug matabangan ug mahatagan og kalipay bisan pa man sa kalisud sa panahon (I saw how the program helps and brings happiness in this difficult time),” said Militante.

Meanwhile, as the one who supervises them, Emma Bantiles, Pantawid City Link in Mandaue City, said that these volunteers were a great help during the SAP implementation as the demand of the workload in the area is very high.

The City of Mandaue is one of the local government units in Central Visayas with highest allocated non-4Ps beneficiaries for SAP.

Helpful kaayo sila sa ilang barangay even if they’re not staff sa barangay. In fact, usahay mag binuntagay paman gani ni sila kay tungod sa kadaghan trabahoon (They are very helpful even if they are not barangay workers. In fact, they even work until the next morning because of the overwhelming tasks),” said Bantiles.

Bantiles added that these Pantawid volunteers in their respective barangays were diligent, trustworthy, hardworking, and can perform any tasks. ###
